Hiking on the E5 long-distance hiking trail - in the valley or on the mountain

The E5 is certainly one of the most beautiful and long-distance hiking trails in the Alpine region. The section through the Pitztal is a scenic highlight and a pleasure for every hiker. Regardless of whether you choose the classic variant over the summit to the Braunschweiger Hütte or rather the "leisurely" variant through the valley   - all paths are well marked and offer pure experience.

An overnight stay in our Hotel Garni Rifflsee *** offers many advantages for E5 hikers. Relax your tired muscles in our wellness area, enjoy the amenities of our comfortable guest rooms and strengthen yourself in the morning at our extensive breakfast buffet - so you are prepared for the further journey through the Tyrolean mountains. With an overnight stay in our hotel you will also receive the Pitztal Summer Card and can use public transport or a trip to the Pitztal Glacier free of charge.

The top priority in long-distance hiking is conscientious tour planning, suitable equipment and the correct assessment of personal performance.

Route: E5 Zams - Braunschweiger Hütte

Zams - Braunschweiger Hütte

Take the Venetbahn gondola up the first section and then follow the path to the first summit, the so called Glanderspitze. When the path joins a forest road turn left to Larcher Alm, which is an ideal stop for some refreshments. Continue hiking along the so called alter Almweg (old trail) past the Winkl hamlet to the village centre of Wenns. From there, catch the public bus to Mittelberg Wendestelle [turning bay] bus stop. Follow the agricultural road in the direction of the catered mountain hut Gletscherstube for the last 1,000 metres in altitude. Long-distance hike E5

On foot across the Alps

Three countries, six valleys, numerous mountain peaks: the classic Alpine crossing on the E5 long-distance hiking trail leads on the original route in six stages from Oberstdorf through Tyrol to Merano and impresses with a variety of impressions. From the alpine high mountains with imposing three-thousanders it goes to sunny southern climes, where palm trees are already growing. In between there are over 10,000 meters of altitude and 180 kilometers spread across the Allgäu, Lechtal and Ötztal Alps. Stages two to six run either partially or entirely on Tyrolean territory.

The route from the southernmost corner of Germany across Austria to Italy is not a route for leisurely alpine hikers, but for experienced mountaineers with good fitness: the daily walking time is between five and nine hours without breaks on mountain trails, some of which are difficult. Even if your legs are pinching - every stage presents wonderful landscape cinema for the eyes!
